Threeasfour Spring 2010 Collection, New York, NY (September 17, 2009). Presented in high Definition.
Reenacting Yoko Ono’s performance art piece, “Cut Piece” from 1965 performed at Carnegie Hall, the first model walked out with two pairs of silver scissors in each hand followed by 22 models who carefully cut away at the model’s spiraling white dress. One by one each model walked the runway, stopping to cut away at a panel of the first dress, piece by peice. After walking, the models remained onstage, those wearing black on one end and those in white on the other.
The black looks were cut into silhouettes inspired by the circular dot drawings of Yoko Ono. Starting simply, a lycra body-suit followed by a unitard had sheer curvilinear cutouts. The cutouts and the geometric silhouettes grew in elaboration as the designs worked ruffles into the sleeves of a jacket and wrap-around dresses.
As the show gravitated toward the white looks, the signature circular style silhouettes of ThreeasFour remained, many featuring Ono's dot drawings printed on the fabric, particularly in flowing silk dresses. Towards the end, two looks came in an icy blue, one featuring lycra cutout leggings and bra top with attached 3D swirls, complimenting the icy color.
By show's end, the initial spiral dress had been cut apart, and the model stood bare in an architecturally cut white swimsuit. The models left the stage to Ono’s voice saying, “Why is this life so beautiful? So interesting?” Truly a work of art, the trio from Threeasfour brought inspiring vision and performance to New York fashion week, particularly in their collaboration with Yoko Ono.
