Isaac Mizrahi Spring 2010 Collection, New York, NY ( Sept 17, 2009). Presented in High Definition.
Isaac Mizrahi’s spring show was pure joy with a Hollywood style 50s movie set titled; “Astaire Case or Obstacle Course.” The set - complete with scaffolding and all manner of staging - had models walking up onto a platform and then down a staircase, following stage directions through a rain machine before finally reaching a stopping point near the end of the catwalk.
Mizrahi sent out an upbeat collection with a modern, New York take on YSL’s tuxedo dressing. There were jackets cut with wide lapels in a variety or lengths. For evening, a tuxedo jacket worn with a salmon colored wrapped tulle skirt tied around the hips looked like it had not been sewn, but simply irreverently wrapped about the body. Fitted bustiers perfectly complemented the cropped jackets and looked daringly chic when paired with a short silk skirt swirled into a charming rosette.
The clothes were classic with a twist, often mixing sharp tailoring with soft layered silk skirts or masculine trousers. Accessories included clear arm braces and a zany Lucite lobster, worn with cardboard boater hats and flat spectator shoes or tri-tone Oxford sandals with a metal spiral cone heal. "I still believe," Mizrahi said, "that fashion has to be gorgeous and colorful and fun.
