Marchesa
Spring 2009

Marchesa Spring 2010 Collection, New York, NY ( Sept 16, 2009). Presented in High Definition.

Georgina Chapman's and Keren Craig's exotic Madame Butterfly inspired collection took us on a flight of fantasy to the Far East with their sensual and romantic dresses adorned with origami flowers, leaves and signature sculptural and gravity-defying ruffles. Chapman and Craig love statement making dresses which suit the glitterati crowd just fine as evidenced by the mass of celebrities who attended in droves to see her red-carpet-ready gowns. Dressing the likes of Blake Lively, Emmy Rossum, Penélope Cruz, Sharon Stone, Diane Kruger, Kate Beckinsale, Rachel Weisz and Kerry Washington, the duo makes no secret of their love for the ultra glam life.

An ivory tulle corset gown embroidered with black flowers culminating in a fishtail was no doubt bound for the red carpet as were many of her spectacular dresses such as a black and white laser-cut strapless gown with a nipped waist and flaring skirt that defied gravity, floating in space around the legs like a cloud as light filtered through the blossom cut-outs casting floral patterns. Laser-cut blooms which looked as if they'd been cut out of paper also framed the neckline and hem of a short silver dance dress with draped tulle sleeves. Delicate floral embroidery and formal kimono style wrapping with obi-esque fixed folds on satin gowns displayed the craftsmanship and technical skill of two women who have found their voice. The results were nothing short of awe-inspiring.
