Valentino
Spring 2010

Valentino Spring 2010 Collection, Paris, France ( October 8, 2009). Presented in High Definition.

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli described their collection for Valentino as “a fairy tale, like a fragile figure walking through an enchanted garden.” Mini pinafore style dresses in sheer organza swirled with ruffles and soft petals like flowers in dusty neutral tones of yellow, lavender, nude and blush that were as light as the fabrics of silk, chiffon, tulle and lace. Dreamy and ethereal, the dresses appeared to float like clouds right down to the skinny strap stilettos embellished with lace wings designed by Philip Treacy. One after another strapless dress swept down the runway in spiraling ruffles and massive bows, yet each managed to look contemporary and sexy.

Elaborate sheer floral blouses embellished with tiers of tulle, crystals and lace were paired with shorts addressing a new younger audience. Gauzy lace chiffon trousers, a fully transparent look exposing the skin underneath were paired with sheer confections of beading, crystals and lace cut into loose tunics or dressed up as aT-shirt dress. A superbly constructed leather jacket in cafe au lait with a mini skirt in spiral, laser-cut leather brought a slight urban edge to the ultra feminine collection.

Romantic dresses and gowns in soft tones of nude, rose, lavender and smokey gray printed with ghostly black orchids picked up more embellishments as the show went on. A creamy, slim gown decorated with circular metal paillettes and honeycomb mesh featured detailed, opaque embroidery over sheer chiffon. Black emerged in the end in a sheer organza strapless jumpsuit and a seductive black leather dress fashioned from laser-cut roses resembling guipure lace, casually tied with a silk chiffon bow.
